You don’t need more decorations; you need a shovel.
The Default Mode
You are staring at a calendar full of holiday parties, shopping lists, and year-end deadlines. The "Spiritually Inconsistent Seeker" tries to fix this by adding more "holy" things to the pile—more novenas, more readings, more volunteering. The result? You arrive at Christmas exhausted, resentful, and spiritually distracted. You cannot fill a cup that is already overflowing.
The Carmelite Shift
You need to stop adding and start digging. In this week's episode, we used the metaphor of the stable. Before you can lay down the fresh straw of virtue, you have to shovel out the manure.
Identify one "attachment" this week that is purely a distraction and detach from it.
Maybe it is the hour you spend mindlessly scrolling Amazon for gifts people don't need.
Maybe it's a social obligation you are dreading. Say "no." Mortify that desire to be busy.
Take that reclaimed time—even if it's just 10 minutes—and sit in silence. Do not fill it with a podcast. Just sit. That act of clearing space is the "shovel" that prepares the manger for the King.
The Bridge
If you are tired of the gap between what you know and how you live, you need a practical way to bridge that distance.
