We often mistake “knowing more” for “growing more.” In this week’s episode, we dissected a hard truth from St. John of the Cross: Your intellect is currently an impediment to your union with God.

When you try to “solve” God like a math problem or a theological puzzle, you aren't engaging in prayer; you’re engaging in data entry. The sting you felt during the podcast wasn't the loss of faith—it was the removal of the false security that comes from “understanding.”

Confusion isn't a sign of failure; it’s the sound of your self-reliance breaking. You are currently “thrashing” because you’ve lost your grip on your cleverness, and you haven't yet learned to breathe in God in the silence.

Remember that we choose to sin; we choose to move away from God. We have to first decide to desire the Lord with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, and then remember that what follows from that love is how we love others.

God is beyond anything we can limit and bound with our intellect. Therefore, we need to remember that we must strip ourselves of any ideas we may have of God and use faith as the means to rest in the transcendence and mystery of God.
